Suggestions for First-time Visitors
How to prepare for your first class:

Wear comfortable clothing - less is better. Nothing too baggy.
No perfume or jewelry please.
Arrive on an empty stomach. Wait 3 hours after a large meal, 1.5 hours after a light snack. Food in your stomach makes practice harder!
Bring a towel. There is an emphasis on detoxifying through perspiration.
Drink, drink, drink water all day! Do not wait until 30 minutes before class to get hydrated.
Arrive at least 10 minutes early and make contact with the teacher.
Once you arrive, fill out a registration form, sign in and pay $14 drop-in fee (class cards are available for an extra savings, and student class cards are reduced even further).
Mats are available for free to our new students but we also sell a variety of mats for your convenience. Please see an instructor for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I start?
The basics classes are designed for those new to the Ashtanga practice. In them, you will be exposed to the basic techniques of the form. We focus on modifications and correct alignment in an effort to instill healthy habits from the beginning, thereby reducing the possibility of injury.

How often should I practice?
As much as you can! We suggest learning the basic sun salutations which crystallize the elements of the practice. Once you learn them, practice them often, even if only 15 minutes a day. The more you practice on a consistent basis, the faster you'll notice results. (Traditionally you practice 6 times a week. Saturdays, new moon and full moon days you take off. Also, women take the three heaviest flow days of their menstrual cycle off.)

Will my other fitness activities (ie weight training, running) erase the benefits of doing yoga?
No. Yoga will enhance your other activities, whether they are physical or mental in nature. If it's physical exercise you're talking about, yoga will help keep you strong, aware and injury free.
