Atlanta Yoga Class Descriptions
| Ashtanga Basics |
These classes will cover the fundamentals of the Ashtanga practice
and are ideal for those new to yoga. The class will cover breathing
(ujjayi breath), sun salutations (surya namaskara A and B), the standing
sequence, and a modified closing sequence. This class is a great introduction
for beginners and a shorter practice for more experienced practitioners. All
levels are welcome. |
| Anusara |
An exploration into the Anusara system of yoga - appropriate for all
levels and abilities.
Universal Principles of Alignment and balanced energetic action
in the performance of asana will be emphasized. |
| Ashtanga All Levels |
This class is
designed to inspire beginners while continuing to challenge more experienced
practitioners. Not recommended as a first class or introduction to yoga - students recommended
to have taken at least six Basics classes. The Sunday all-levels class is a slightly longer class
and will generally cover the postures of the full primary series in addition to postures
from second and/or third series. |
| Ashtanga Explorations |
While still following the traditional format of the Ashtanga practice
time is taken each class to break down a particular aspect of movement:
headstands, arm balances, vinyasa, back bending, etc...paying particular
attention to those areas that open doors to more advanced asana practice.
|
| Ashtanga Level II |
The full primary series of Ashtanga Yoga. This is a guided class
and modifications are presented so seasoned practitioners and newer students
alike can enjoy learning and exploring the full first series. However, it is
not suitable for beginners - students should be proficient with sun salutations
and familiarity with the closing sequence is recommended. . Currently, the Sunday All Levels
class covers most most of the postures of the full primary series in addition to postures
from second and third series. If you wish to practice full primary in the traditional manner
please come to the Mysore classes. |
| Mysore |
In Mysore-style class,
each student is taught individually within a group setting. With the guidance
and hands-on adjustments of the teacher, each student receives the attention
necessary to learn, work, progress and practice the Ashtanga sequence at his or
her own pace. In essence, it is a one-on-one lesson within a group. This teaching method
also allows for a therapeutic approach when needed. Please note that this is not a
class for beginners. Familiarity with the sun salutations and
standing postures specific to the Ashtanga Vinyasa system is required.
